WII FIT REVIEW
The Nintendo Wii revolutionised gaming by introducing bodily movement in to the gaming experience. Not only did this bring about a more immersive and enjoyable gaming experience it also meant exercise and so it was obvious from the beginning that it wouldnt be long before games would be designed purely to get gamers off their sofas and start burning some calories. Wii Fit is one of these games.

The main component of Wii Fit is the ‘balancing board’ that gamers can stand upon whilst performing various activities such as boxing, yoga and jogging. The board is able to measure all sorts of things such as your BMI, weight and ‘Wii Fit Age” and tracks your progress as you improve your scores in the activities. The board itself is an impressive feat of engineering and is very responsive indeed. The idea behind Wii Fit is good, but unfortunately it fails to deliver much in practise. The game is seriously flawed in certain areas - For instance, it can’t measure the muscle mass of an individual leading to some dodgy classifications. Multiplayer options are severely limited too and there really isn’t any area of the game that will get you ‘addicted’. The biggest flaw of all is one of the most fundamental parts of the game too - the amount of actual effective exercise. Sure, the game does require exercise, but I would definitely advise against purchasing this ‘game’ if you have visions of shedding some serious pounds. To get decent results you are going to have to use this piece of equipment rather a lot.
However, for those of us that just want a bit of fun and enjoy being a little more active ( and I assume most Wii users fall under this category), this game is excellent. So what if there are some innacuracies? So what if you can’t lose massive amounts of weight with it? Wii fit is easy to use, enjoyable to play with and a stunning example of the advances of technology in the gaming industry.
Wii Fit is the best workout/exercise game on the market - but that is nothing to shout out from the rooftops. With its feeble impact on the body, Wii Fit comes up a little short. However, the game is innovative, easier than heading down to the gym (and a lot more enjoyable) and has bridged the gap between video entertainment and exercise. Excellent for the casual user, but maybe slightly disappointing for the fitness freaks out there. A good sign of things to come…
